• Automated GUI Testing on MeeGo and QML with Squish

Hamburg, Germany—2010/11/25 froglogic GmbH today announced that the forthcoming Squish 4.1 release will include dedicated support for the automated GUI testing of MeeGo applications.

MeeGo is a Linux-based open source mobile operating system primarily targeted at mobile devices and information appliances in the consumer electronics market. MeeGo is the operating system used by many of Nokia's next generation of smartphones.

MeeGo's user interface is based on Nokia's Qt and QML technologies. QML is a JavaScript-based, declarative language for designing user interface-centric applications. QML is particularly well suited to the creation of modern dynamic interfaces for mobile applications on MeeGo.

Squish is the leading functional, cross-platform GUI and regression testing tool that can test applications based on a variety of GUI technologies, including Nokia's Qt Software Development Frameworks, Java SWT/Eclipse RCP, Java AWT/Swing, Mac OS X Carbon/Cocoa, and Web/HTML/AJAX. Squish stands out from other GUI testing tools by giving test engineers the freedom to record and write tests using familiar scripting languages such as JavaScript, Perl, Python, and Tcl. Furthermore, Squish provides extremely tight integration with the specific GUI technologies it supports. This gives testers unprecedented access to the internals of the applications they are testing (to data items, controls, and widgets, etc.), and also leads to the production of very robust and stable GUI tests.

Squish itself, and all the tests created with it, are completely cross-platform, and work on Windows, Linux/Unix, Mac OS X, and embedded/mobile Linux systems such as MeeGo.

With the upcoming Squish 4.1 release, froglogic will provide dedicated Squish packages specifically for MeeGo testing to provide test engineers with the easiest possible installation process to automate their GUI tests for mobile MeeGo applications.

Since most MeeGo applications will be based on QML, Squish 4.1 will also include dedicated support for QML and Qt Quick based applications going beyond Squish's already excellent native Qt support.

"Squish is the leading GUI Testing Tool in the Qt market and supports desktop as well as embedded/mobile application testing. By adding specific support for QML and Qt Quick GUIs and offering pre-built Squish packages for MeeGo we have demonstrated our commitment to Nokia's Qt strategy and given MeeGo developers and test engineers the opportunity to benefit from Automated GUI Testing to help them deliver robust high-quality mobile applications."—Reginald Stadlbauer, CEO, froglogic.
