Animation while connecting on a tcpsocket

i am planning to so show an animated (gif) on my widget while i am trying to connect to a server , I have no idea how to implement this. first of how can i show an animation to widget , is there a widget container that will take of a gif file and show the animation?

My plan is to load the gif on my connect and i will wait for the connected signal to turn it off and changed it to an online icon while at my disconnect signal i will show an offline icon , but while the app and the other device is establishing connection i will show an animation of some sort. Is this possible and if so please show me some hints
