The Role
Software Engineer
The Candidate
We are looking for a C++ programmer, with a good degree who is looking to take the next career step. Ideally, they would have a strong background in software engineering and system design.

Key skills
Degree (or HND or similar, with suitable experience) in IT, physics, science or engineering subject
Minimum of 3 years experience in programming C++
Experience in program design and testing
Experience of efficient user interface design and implementation using Qt 4
Demonstrable ability to apply Object Oriented Design principles
Cross-platform development experience
Familiarity with all stages of the product life cycle
Ability to write clean, efficient & well-structured code
Unit testing and profiling of code
Writing specifications and test plans
Can work alone or as part of a team
Legally entitled to work in UK on a permanent basis
Written and oral communication skills
Clean UK driving licence

Desirable skills
Javascript
Shell scripting (bash/perl/python etc)
Linux system administration
Embedded systems
A background in mathematics or physics
SQL
Hierarchical state machines
Familiarity with Subversion version control system
Doxygen documentation system
XHTML, Cascading Style Sheets
KDE programming
OpenGL
Fortran

The Role
Reporting to the MAPS Head of Software, the successful applicant will be responsible for designing, coding and testing the MAPS software, with help and guidance from the physics and engineering teams.
