Default Y-Axis Scale Spacing - Newbie Question

Hi. I've just started using Qwt, and I LOVE it! I have one minor problem that I have not been able to solve using the excellent documentation. I have 2 x-y plots lined up one above the other, with a single X-axis scale below the lower plot. But when the two Y-axis scales become different widths, the plots are no longer the same width and so the single X-axis scale on the lower plot doesn't match the upper plot any more. I have attached an example that hopefully shows what I am not explaining very well.

My question: is there some way to specify a fixed pixel width for the Y-axis scale values? I don't want to fix the width of the plot, because the containing widget can be resized. Any ideas?
