    Default Displaying upside down

    Hello,
I'm using QT to display maps, I make use of painter.scale and translate.
It suddenly came to my attention that the maps I get from digital data (shapefiles actually) are displayed upside down, compared to how they are displayed in
    say QuantumGis.
Is there an easy trick to display them as I expect them?
I have thought of inverting the y values when reading, but this doesnt seem too clean.
I thought there might be something in world transformations to do this.
