    Default Nokia Certified Qt Developer

    Hi Brothers

I wonder if someone who already passed it could share how hard it was?Maybe what question he/she had? Also,if it is permitted to use Assistant during the exam,or you have to know everything on your own?

Well you hardly can tell if it is hard or not because that always relies on the persons background who takes the exam. But If you had worked for half a year with Qt and had read the important pages at assistant about the basic core and gui stuff (most important the way QObject works (with signal and slots)) the test could be passed. Have also a look at the web page of nokia, there they are listing all stuff you should read.

And you aren't allowed to use the assistant.

I'm working with Qt since 4.2.0 to 4.5.0 version (about 2-3 years).I can use QWidgets with ease,as well as QGraphicsView,model-view programming including creation of custom models and views by inheriting abstract classes, and also SQL module.
What you think Lykurg, would that be enough?

The Qt Essentials Exam shouldn't be a problem for you. 2-3 years of experience with Qt is too much for that exam For the specialized exams you first have to go through the new features of 4.6 and 4.7 but then also they aren't a real problem for you.

  5. The following user says thank you to Lykurg for this useful post:

One the benefits is that you get a rather nice badge on your profile here

Another is that you can proudly claim as such on your CV should you be looking for another job

I'm not so sure about that job searching...Companies will test me anyway during qualification process,so I can prove to them my Qt knowledge.
And from my former job a know two developers whose are certified, but their knowledge is not so high...So my doubts,if this certificate isn't only waste of money :/

Of course you will be tested regardless you have that certificate. But for the decision to invite you or not the certificate can give you that "extra point" you need to join the inner circle of invited persons.

Exactly, it proves that you know the basics of Qt rather than just saying you have experience of Qt.

On some jobs it might not make any difference whatsoever (they might just interview anyone who says they have knowledge), but if they get a lot of applicants, it could make the difference between getting an interview or not.

Eg. I know at my last job they rang me up and asked the question "You say you have Qt knowledge, so tell me how you would go about creating a drive list drop-down box for a Windows application?" which I assumed was the pre-real-interview screening question, but not every employer may do it like that, specially if they go through an agency, in which case, its much easier to just say "Must be nokia certified".

Okay,I feel being convinced. But I'm afraid this exam a little, because I never tried to remeber small details-instead,I learnt a basic concept+knowledge where I shoud check the Assinstant for details when needed...and since Lykurg has told me that using Assistant during exam is not permitted,I lost my confidence :/
    @Lykurg
Are anywhere some old questions available?

If you consider yourself better than people who have already taken the exam and passed, what are you worried about?

But as stated on the website, "The material covered on the Qt Essentials Exam is defined by the Qt Essentials Curriculum Block."

Even if you fail, you can always retake the test.

If you pass, you can then progress to Nokia Certified Qt Specialist.
