Default QwtThermo with "hanging" peak indicator

I am looking for a way to add a black bar or similar to the thermometer display, which keeps the reached maximum peak value for a moment and then goes back to a next peak value with a short delay. The normal display of the thermometer should remain unchanged.
Are there already solutions for this?

No - you probably have to derive from QwtThermo and add the extra features by overloading paintEvent and friends.
