It’s very likely that what you’re seeing is not a bug in your 3D rendering code itself, but a limitation of the Wayland platform’s multi-window and surface management on the IMX8 target. Unlike X11, Wayland treats every window (surface) as an isolated entity controlled by the compositor. When you attempt to render 3D content into a secondary sub-window, the compositor has to manage separate EGL surfaces, buffer swaps, and GPU context sharing. On embedded boards like the i.MX8, GPU drivers often don’t fully support complex multi-window EGL usage, leading to blank rendering or crashes.
