qmake on mac does nothing ?!

I have just switched to Mac Qt after trying to get started on Windows. The experience on Windows was so bad I hoped the Mac would be better. But no luck. I am running qmake on one of the examples from the 'C++ Gui programming with Qt 4' but qmake never creates a Makefile. It also never gives an error message. What could be wrong?

Next, I will try to locate the sources and configure script. Maybe if I rebuild qmake it will work?
I am using OS X 10.6.4.

My mistake, I didn't realize it was creating an xcode project. I was looking for Makefiles. All seems to be well. !!
