I use the designer for the basic implementation - for positioning the elements on the window - of the GUI. Than i code in txt editor (vim).
Always. I almost don't know how to layout widgets manually.
Designer? What is that? Nope, never use it.
Depends and the task. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
